Year-Round Air Conditioner Repair & Air Conditioner Replacement

Expert AC Repair Services

With it being AC season almost year-round in Texas, we are used to running AC repair calls all the time. As a family-owned and operated business owner, we know no one wants to call the Air Conditioner Repairman for fear of the unknown. How much is going to cost? Is there a service call fee? How do I know if the service or repair is quoted to us is going to fix the problem or is an honest quote? These are all very good questions based on some bad apple companies out there that unfortunately that have taken advantage of unsuspecting customers.

At Moody Air Conditioning repair, our business is everything and we are nothing without satisfied and loyal customers. We believe in full-disclosure on what ac repair or replacement options make sense for your HVAC System. After discussing the issue you are having, we will inspect the ac system to determine the source of the malfunction. When we are diagnosing and formulating repair solutions, we take many factors into consideration such as;

  1. Is your air conditioning system under warranty
  2. Do you have more than one air conditioning system? We know how hot homes can get and having a portion of your house cooling properly to occupy during ac repair or ac replacement is helpful and buys a little time to not feel rushed at all into a decision by other companies.
  3. How old is the system? Unfortunately, a lot of ac systems are old and the cost to repair or patch a system to keep it operating "just enough" to get you by often result in continual repair service callbacks. We will present you with the repair service option that makes the most sense.
  4. Have you had the same issue repaired multiple times or have other components been worked on? If your air conditioning system is continually failing, there is usually a bigger underlying issue to eliminate the need for emergency service repair calls.
  5. Has your AC System(s) been properly maintained? Do you have an annual maintenance plan in place to get in front of future air conditioning system problems? With annual maintenance, we check the lines for pressure, check the refrigerant (freon) levels, check the ac contactor, check the ac capacitor, check the amperage draw on the ac system and components, as well as check the ac duct lines and last but not least the ac filters. All of these preventative checks and services keep your air conditioning systems working longer and more efficiently. Think of it like rotating the tires on your car and regularly changing the oil and oil filter, servicing the brakes and changing critical fluids. You do this to extend the life of your vehicle, keep it running smoothly and avoiding big repairs or extending the time before needing a new car. Your heating and cooling systems are no different. Be sure to ask us about our three HVAC maintenance plan options.

When your AC System is not cooling properly, here are some common issues you can check before calling us for service to help us understand what we may encounter prior to arrival. Rest assured, we will still evaluate the whole system.

Common Air Conditioner Repair Issues/Identifiers

  1. The air conditioning is not cooling at all. This is the main overall repair issue which we must get to the source of the problem.When the air conditioning is not cooling at all, here are a few things to check;
    • Is the condenser (the ac unit outside) running? This is easy to check. Is the fan blade spinning and can you hear the motor running and feel air blowing on your hand when you place it above the ac condenser.
    • Is the condenser not running? Do you hear any humming like something is trying to work but it isn't? If this is the case, please go turn off your unit at the thermostat to avoid stressing the air conditioner.
    • If you don't hear any noise at all, please make sure the thermostat setting is set to a cooler temperature than the temperature in the room. Once you do this, please go check the condenser again. It can take a moment to cycle on but not long at all. Follow the steps above depending on the result.
  2. There is no air coming out of the air conditioning registers (vents) but the outside unit is running.
    • When you experience this, we recommend checking the ac filters. You can even remove it for a moment and then see if that creates airflow. In some instances, your filter could be so dirty that it is completely blocking airflow.
    • Check around the air conditioning condenser for blocks of ice anywhere. If you see any built-up ice, it could indicate a few issues which will require service. From issues with the ac contactor to low freon or several issues, we suggest calling us as soon as possible. When you do notice this, please shut off the air conditioner at the thermostat to start the thawing process. Feel free to fill out our contact form and include a picture of the issues you see.
  3. There is air coming out of the ac vents but the air isn't cold. We recommend looking for similar ac repair issues. It could be several things including the AC capacitor. If you have condensers side by side outside, another thing you could do is place your hands above them while running to compare the air temperature difference. A unit cooling properly should be emitting warm air. If you notice the one having issues has cooler air coming from the condenser, that is another indicator of an issue requiring repair.

One thing we want to caution you about is to be careful at all times. Any troubleshooting techniques we have provided are all visual in nature. Air Conditioning systems are fully integrated with your electrical systems and are therefore very dangerous. Under no circumstances do we suggest you electrically test your systems. This can very dangerous and should only be left to professionals trained to work on air conditioners.

Air Conditioner Replacement

Unfortunately, there inevitably comes the time when your Air Conditioning System(s) requires replacement. Whether the cost of continual repairs no longer makes sense or the system has reached the end of its' shelf life, we are all at some point faced with the decision. This can be a very stressful time as you are required to make an investment decision for your home, business, or rental property. When the time comes, we will provide you with a thorough quote outlining every component of our replacement quote. We will evaluate every component within your HVAC system to see if there is any component that is properly functioning and won't compromise the integrity and energy efficiency of your newer system. Items that will be quoted/considered will include the following;

  1. The size of the existing unit - Is it the right size for the area it's cooling. Too big of a system can be wasteful of upfront costs and too small can prove to be inefficient and taxing on the system causing it to run longer, thus shortening its life-cycle.

Whenever it is time for a new system or there are airflow issues, we will thoroughly inspect the ductwork to look at its' age, wear and tear, efficiency rating as well as proper mapping and installation. We want to make sure airflow is properly distributed to make sure your AC System is operating optimally.

When replacing systems, many people prefer to swap out the old with the new but many people often want to preserve any equipment that may be able to operate and integrate with the new system. We do a full HVAC system review when quoting services and will point out everything we observe as well as answer any and all questions you may have.

Smart Thermostats are all the rage today. Being able to control your HVAC systems from your smartphone has some real advantages. Many of the new systems have integrated smart thermostats or clients opt to purchase their own smart thermostats. Depending on the age of your home, you may not have all the required wires ( c- wire) at the thermostat location to take full advantage of all the features. We will alert you to this and there are workarounds such as conversion kits that can be situated at the unit to create the functionality at the thermostat. We are fully versed in what needs to be done to enjoy the maximum benefits of your HVAC system!

Unfortunately, there inevitably comes the time when your Air Conditioning System(s) requires replacement. Whether the cost of continual repairs no longer makes sense or the system has reached the end of its' shelf life, we are all at some point faced with the decision.

In our area, with people more and more concerned about losing power due to hurricanes and other storms, the use of standby generators has become more common. With that being the case some A/C Units are being specifically designed to function in tandem with standby generators or a 240v inverter generator.

We are proud to offer the Carrier Infinity System for homes with generators that are looking for that perfect system to tie into.
